The Story of The Happy Lark
When people ask us "What do you do?" we now have a very simple answer-- we own a toy store!
But, things didn't use to be so simple. The Happy Lark originally opened in 2015 in Fort Worth, Texas as an indoor playspace and shop. We did birthday parties, people had memberships.... it was a whole thing!
The shop and especially the online store were minor parts of our business. Between 2015 and 2020, we slowly shifted our focus toward our shop, and specifically toys (we used to sell clothes too).
Then, in March 2020, the world changed. The playspace had to close because of COVID, and after a few panic attacks, we calmed down and completely pivoted to online sales. Our intention at that time was the playspace would be closed for a few weeks or maybe a month (LOL) and then we'd resume business as normal. Well, as we all know, that didn't happen. The good news was that our pivot to mainly online sales was working. We could still pay our rent and our bills. Months and months went by, and our playspace eventually morphed into more of a warehouse and shipping space.
When the time came when we could actually re-open the playspace, we kinda couldn't. We needed that space for other things, so we had to make a choice. We made the difficult decision to permanently close the playspace so that we could continue to grow our toy store, online and brick and mortar.
So now, that's it-- we own a toy store, and we couldn't love it more! The principles our playspace represented still guide our choices. We carry high-quality toys that encourage unplugged play. We carry very few toys that require batteries. We want to be a trusted source for AWESOME toys that benefit your kiddos. It's been a winding road to get here, but we feel like this is what we're meant to do. Thanks for being a part of our journey!
