Our September 2019 book is "Evvie Drake Starts Over" by Linda Holmes. Our meeting will be September 5th at 7PM at our new location, 6012 Southwest Blvd. Buy tickets here

We had a great idea.

We're starting a book club! One of our goals here at THL is to provide a place that fosters community. We're always trying to think of new ways to do this that happen outside of our normal business happenings. AKA-- how can we encourage mama friendships that happen outside the context of playdates? We thought a book club would be a fun and easy way to do just that. To give each of you a new option for meeting mama friends that just might be going through the same phase of life that you are. To carve a little time out for yourself. To drink a glass of wine (or a La Croix) in the company of..... other adults!

We can't guarantee that your braid will look as awesome as this girl's if you join our book club, but.... maybe?

So. We're starting a mom-focused book club. Let's do a brief Q & A session:

Q: What types of books will we read?

A: We're gonna mix it up. That being said, we want to focus on books that speak to the mama heart. This will include fiction and non-fiction.

Q: Will this book club actually meet? In person?

A: Yes. At THL. On the first Thursday of the month at 7PM. We reserve the right to change this but that's what we're thinking. We plan on starting in August.

Q: Does it cost money?

A: This is not a money-making venture for us. That being said, we are going to charge a small fee (we are thinking $8?) to cover book club essentials such as name tags, wine, and delicious snacks. [FYI: We do have other money-making ventures, and if you want to buy something in the shop or book a party while you're at book club, we probably won't say no ;)]

Q: How will I know what this month's book is?

A: Join this Facebook group. We'll be posting August's book in the next few days.

Q: A Facebook group?

A: Yes. We are hoping the group can serve as a place for book discussion (after our scheduled meeting of course), book club logistics, other general mom chat, and maybe a way to friend that fun mom that you met at book club in a less creepy way. This will be a closed group. We'll need to approve you, but you should be able to request to join.

Q: Can I invite my friend?

A: Yes! But this group is focused on moms or soon-to-be moms or hopeful moms of young(ish) kiddos. Sorry dads-- we love you, but you guys will have to make your own club.

Q: What's the name of this book club?

A: WE DON'T KNOW. Help us decide. List your idea in the "comments" section of this blog. We'll pick the one we like the best. You'll get all the credit for your witty name idea.

Q:  How will we pick the next book?

A: You are under no obligation to actually show up to the book club meetings (you can just engage in FB group chat if you'd like) BUT other than being super fun and a great way to meet people, one perk of going is that you'll get to vote on the next book. We will pick three options, give you a brief overview of each, give you a few minutes to delve into Amazon reviews of each, then we'll vote at the meeting. After the meeting, we will post the selection in the FB group (and probably other places like Instagram).

Q: I'm in! How do I sign up?!

A: Join the FB group. When we get closer to our first meeting (August 2nd at 7PM) we will post the link for "tickets." This will be how you reserve your spot, and pay for your $8 worth of name tags, wine, La Croix, and delicious snacks.

Q: What if I buy a ticket and then can't come?

A: E-mail us more than 24 hours before book club and we will happily refund your money. After that, we're keeping your money, because we've already bought all our book club essentials with you in mind. That being said, we'll miss you :(

Q: What if I don't finish the book?

A: It happens. Come anyway!

Q: Can I bring my kid(s)?

A: No. We love kids, but let's make this an adults-only book club.
